Marlene A. Wilson to lead PPNThe University of South Carolina School of Medicine is pleased to announce the appointment of Marlene A. Wilson, Ph.D., as Interim Chair of the Department of Pharmacology, Physiology and Neuroscience. This appointment is effective November 16, 2007. Dr. Wilson's appointment by Dean Donald J. DiPette, M.D., followed extensive discussion with and nominations by the faculty of the department. Dr. Wilson will serve while a national search is conducted to identify a permanent chair. A committee to conduct that search will be formed in the near future.Dr. Wilson earned her Ph.D. in Neurobiology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and completed postdoctoral studies at Yale University. She joined the faculty of the School of Medicine in 1988 as Assistant Professor of Pharmacology and was most recently promoted to the rank of Professor of Pharmacology, Physiology and Neuroscience in 2003. She is nationally and internationally known for her research on the regulation of neurotransmission and the role of gender in brain function and was the 1998 recipient of the School of Medicine Research Excellence Award. Her research program is funded primarily by the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Wilson is also an accomplished teacher and has served the department, school, university and scientific community in numerous capacities.
