Dual Degree Programs

MD/PHD

The School of Medicine offers a MD/PHD dual degree, which seeks to further student’s education by providing a thorough medical education as well as participation in research using state-of-the-art facilities. This six and a half year program trains physician scientists in the practice of clinical medicine and medical scientific investigation.

How to Apply

In order to be qualified for the dual degree program, students must apply and be accepted into each program separately. Students should show interest in both science and medicine by prior participation in medical research activities such as internships in university departments, the NIH or CDC.

Requirements

  • Application deadline for MD program is December 1st
  • Application deadline for PHD program is April 1st (but advised to turn in at same time as MD application)
  • Must have taken the MCAT

MD/MPH

The School of Medicine, in conjunction with the Arnold School of Public Health, offers a MD/MPH dual degree that is designed for future physicians who want to prepare for meeting the challenges of managed care, practicing evidence-based medicine, ensuring effective preventive medicine for their patients, and administering medical offices and/or community, state, and federal health organizations.

This program provides a systematic approach to acquiring the academic experiences needed to understand and appreciate the broad range of public health concepts, issues and opportunities while simultaneously pursuing a medical degree.

How to Apply

In order to qualify for the dual degree program, students must apply and be accepted into each program separately. This program takes five years and must be finished within six years.

Requirements

  • Acceptable MCAT tests score
  • An official transcript from each school or college previously attended (all prior postsecondary school study must be represented)
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • Detailed written statement describing interest in public health and specific career goals
  • Acceptance by a department within the School of Public Health
